THE “NEWCARE” INITIATIVE: NEWTECONS’ RESPONSE TO SALINITY CHALLENGES
In continuation of its community support initiative, “NewCare,” which focuses on regions affected by salinity, the Newtecons Union Executive Committee recently spearheaded a distribution effort, providing drinking water and water storage tanks to the residents of Phuoc Trung Commune in Go Cong Dong District, Tien Giang Province.
This season, the Mekong Delta has experienced unprecedented salinity challenges, which have escalated in complexity and severity compared to previous years. The pervasive water scarcity has profoundly impacted the domestic and agricultural sectors throughout the region, severely affecting the livelihoods and agricultural production of the local population. In response to the acute shortage, many families have been compelled to conserve water meticulously, travel extensive distances to access water sources, or face high costs to secure water for daily use.
Demonstrating a commitment to social responsibility, members of the Newtecons Union Executive Committee visited Phuoc Trung—a locality that has been significantly impacted by these salinity issues—to conduct assessments and directly engage with the affected communities. During their visit, they distributed 140 units of 20-liter water containers and 70 units of 1,000-liter water storage tanks to the underprivileged families, aiming to alleviate their immediate water scarcity issues.
Ms. Le Thi Phuong Dung, who serves at the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phuoc Trung Commune, expressed her gratitude, stating,
“The practical actions taken by your company have provided timely assistance to many residents, helping them navigate the difficulties associated with the dry season. The provision of water tanks will enable residents to maintain a longer-term water supply. We are deeply appreciative of your support and hopeful that the program will expand to assist an increasing number of people in the future.”
The NewCare program’s deployment of water tanks in saline-affected areas underscores Newtecons’ dedication to sustainable development practices. Each water tank distributed not only addresses the immediate practical needs concerning water scarcity but also embodies a message of solidarity and communal support. Through collective efforts and corporate engagement, Newtecons aspires to foster a brighter and more sustainable future for regions grappling with salinity challenges, ultimately improving the quality of life for the affected populations.
